From the completely weird to the wonderfully creative.
These certainly aren’t your everyday dishes. Have you tried anything out of the ordinary? Would you ever consider offering something as crazy as these in your own restaurant?
Bird’s Nest Soup
1.) Often called the Caviar of the East, this bird’s nest soup from China really does contain bird’s saliva! It’s a dish that’s considered to be a great source of protein!
Bedfordshire Clanger
2.) The Bedfordshire Clanger is perhaps one you might be more comfortable with. It’s a suet crust dumpling not far from a pastry, but it has a twist. One side is filled with a savoury centre, usually meat and veg. The other end has a sweet filling, typically a fruit. This dish dates back to the 19th century and is traditionally steamed.
Morcilla
3.) The Morcilla is a blood sausage like no other, unique to Latin America. It’s cooked using many different fillers including rice, onions etc, and of course ‘asado’ – pig’s blood.
Escamoles
4.) Escamoles – This dish might look innocent, but it’s actually ant larvae! You heard right, this creamy dish is harvested from the blue agave plant and the manquey. You will find escamoles in Mexico City usually with Tacos!
Peeping Mushroom Pasta
5.) This is a fun twist on the standard creamy mushroom pasta dish. Known as ‘Peeping mushroom pasta’ it’s definitely an eye-catcher and a simple enough recipe!

Honey Nut Cheerio Chicken
6.) Chicken with honey nut cheerios! Apparently, a great way to incorporate cereal into a dish is by combining it with chicken. Not something you come across every day, but we can certainly see the appeal.

Stargazey Pie
7.) The Stargazey pie originally from Mousehole in Cornwall came about as a tribute to fisherman Tom Bawcock who sailed out to sea during aggressive storms in order to save his village from starvation. He returned with several different types of fish which were made into a pie.

Rooster Testicles
8.) Rooster testicles, you heard right… Rooster testicles! Unbelievably, this is a popular dish found in China. Would you try them?

Dancing Squid
9.) Dancing squid is something you can order in Japan. Although, it’s probably not for everyone. It’s known as the ‘dancing squid’ because the squid is still moving on the plate! Of course, the squid isn’t still alive, but it moves as if it were when soy sauce is poured over the top.
